Editing large quantities of restraint data - 01/07/03 06:16 AM

I have a 5km long pipeline which is supported every 9m with a +Y support (approximately 560 supports). I have put in a friction coefficient of 0.6 on all of the supports. Is there any quick way of changing this value to say 0.3? The restraint list utility doesn't have a replace all function. Do I have to edit each individual restraint? I created the supports by using the copy supports function in the line break utility.

I hope you have more than just +Y supports in your model, otherwise you will see rigid body motion and your results will be meaningless?

To answer your question, yes you can make a "global" change to your friction - assuming you are running Version 4.40 (or later). As of Version 4.40, on the Load Case Options tab of the Static Load Case Editor, there are several fields to the right side of the dialog that were added. (If you can't see these fields, move the slider bar to the right.) One of these fields is the Friction Multiplier. By specifying a muliplier in this column, for the appropriate load case(s), you can alter the friction effects. So for your specific question, you would put "0.5" in this column for those load cases where you wanted to use mu=.3 instead of mu=.6.

For additional details on this, please review the CAESAR II Usage Tips Vol 3 which can be found on this web site. In addition, this new 4.40 feature as well as the other 4.40 enhancements are discussed in the October 2002 Edition of COADE 's Mechanical Engineering News, also available on this web site.
