Acoustic Fatigue

Acoustic Fatigue - 04/09/07 03:51 AM
Dear All
I need some guidance for doing Acoustic fatigue analysis on PSV's.
There are some PSV'S that generate high noise which can cause cracking at the outlet elbow.
I know that this analysis requires some hand calculation, but I am not getting the correct reference material.
Thanks,
SKK
First:
Acoustic fatigue analysis cannot be done using a structural analysis program.
Second : Visit this link:

You might check this site. They have a number of papers on the subject that are free to down-load.

Dear Anindya,
Thanks for the information. I had seen the website
http://www.valve-world.netBut this does not give a proper method to calculate and reach a conclusion.
The Salah Gas incident is a really good document.
I am in search for ASME Paper by Carruci and Mueller and MTD Guidelines for Avoidance of Vibration Induced Fatigue in Process Pipework (ISBN 1 870553 37 3, 1999).
I would like to have a copy of the papers if someone has it.

SKK,
I have mailed the paper at your yahoo address.

The last post on this topic was 9 years ago, and the last post by the person you're requesting the paper from is from 7 years ago.
You might look into the Energy Institute Guidelines for the Avoidance of Vibration Induced Fatigue Failure in Process Pipework.
Hello,
Hi SKK, As per my opinion you need to perform AIV study for PSV's whose sound power level is above 155dB. As per EI (Energy Institute Guideline)
Firstly you have to check what is the sound power level given by PSV vendor. If it is less than 155dB then no need to do further mitigation.
For better understanding kindly refer EI guideline.Clause T2.7.3 on page 60.
Thank you.
