I am performing a riser design to ASME B31.8 Chapter VIII, and have a query regarding the hydrotest case. I have entered the factor for hoop stress, F1, as 0.5 (from Table 842.22).
The hoop stress reported in the output is > 0.5SMYS, and CAESAR reports a code failure for the hydrotest check.
If the design criteria for the internal design pressure (F1) is 0.5 for risers, does that mean that F1 should be 0.5 * 1.4 = 0.7 for the hydrotest case? If that is the case do hydrotest cases have to be performed separately?
OR is the design criteria for hydrotest infact still F1 = 0.5. (not likely?)
