B31.4 Buried Elbow SIF - 06/14/22 01:02 PM

Hello -

I am working on modeling an HDD for a client and I noticed that SIFs are not being taken into account on the 6D induction bends that are used to tie the HDD back into the cross country pipe.

I don't see where the type of bend is taken into account on C2 so I don't think this could be an instance where the code differs between an induction bend or a forged fitting. Should the SIFs be greater than 1 in this particular instance? And if so is there a way to get C2 to calculate the SIF or is this something that needs to be completed by hand and the code stress should be re-calculated?

Thanks in advance.

There is a good chance with this bend radius that the computed SIF is less than 1.0. The Code says 1.0 is the minimum, so if c2 computes an SIF less than 1.0, the program changes it to 1.0.

Calculate the SIF yourself to verify this.
