wind on rigid without weight element

wind on rigid without weight element - 11/18/19 08:13 AM

I have noticed that wind will act also on the rigid without weight element and will result in lateral load. Insulation on the rigid without weight element, even not reported as insulation on the report, will increase the area affected by wind. Therefore (at least for big pipes) it is necessary to turn off the wind on the rigid without weight element. For convenience I never done this until now when I have a 10% more stress reported on the OCC only from such element.

I see where CAESAR states that insulation added to a non-zero weight rigid is multiplied by 1.75

I see where CAESAR treating rigid elements as piping elements, except 10x thicker.

The cases where this would be most critical is on "large" diameter, "thin" wall piping connected to "large" vessels, I would think. I can't think of too many other cases where you would have "modeling constructs" that would be susceptible to wind, despite reality dictating never seeing wind.

But it is very good to note.

Thanks
