API 610 Webinar Question

API 610 Webinar Question - 03/12/19 05:40 AM

I was just watching the API 610 webinar and noticed that in Richard Ay's model, the suction and discharge nozzle restraints appear to have Anchors with Cnodes connected to rigid elements.

What is the CNode for the anchor restraint? Or are the rigid elements not directly connected to the anchor element?

Is there any difference/benefit between using this method vs directly applying displacements to the nozzle location as shown in Tutorial B?

The CNODE anchor allows the user to include thermal displacements and also pull out nozzle loads.

Rigids usually connect the wall to the CL of the vessel to express thermal expansion outward from the CL of the vessel.

It is useful in the absence of better information.

Got it. I'd typically used the displacement method from Tutorial B but I like the the anchor method more.

Thanks!

And to rectify my earlier statements - I read API 610 and jumped to WRC 107 in my head, but the logic is still the same. Replace mentions of "vessel" with "pump."
