Only one overstressed node shown at a time

Only one overstressed node shown at a time - 10/31/18 03:49 AM

Hi, I am modelling a piping system which is symmetric about both X and Y axis. However, when i see the static analysis results, there is only one node that is failing. I increase the properties of that section and re run the analysis which results in no overstress. But again, now CAESAR shows the corresponding element in the other symmetric quadrant as failing. I'm confused why caesar is not listing all failed nodes at once?

Appreciate quick help.
Regards.

What do you mean by "increase the properties"? It's possible that by modifying that section of piping the next analysis resulted in stress on the side of the system.

If you go to the 3D plot features in the output window it will show all overstressed components but if you selected "max overstress" or whatever it's called, that will only show the highest stress in the system.

Few clues are offered for a good diagnosis.
Some piping codes that have more than one stress check for a load case (e.g., B31.8). Currently CAESAR II shows only one "code stress" in the stress report - where more than one check is present, CAESAR II lists only the stress calculation that has the highest stress-to-allowable ratio. Perhaps you are using such a piping code and more than one stress calculation is exceeded - your fix corrected one but not the other.
Note: the next version of CAESAR II - CAESAR II 2019 (aka Version 11.0) will list ALL stress evaluations that the code sets for a particular load case.
