Caesar II 2016 Wind Pressure Unit Display - 01/24/16 12:28 AM

Hello all,

Please confirm my doubt. I have a system where my unit of pressure in piping input is kg/cm^2g. In the wind pressure vs. elevation the unit of pressure being displayed is also kg/cm^2g.. At 10 m height I have a wind pressure of 940 N/m^2 which is equal to .001 kg/cm^2..So since the unit being displayed in wind pressure is kg/cm^2 I inputted 0.001 kg/cm^2g...But there is no effect with wind loads..I compare the result with Caesar II 2014 to clear my doubt.. And I think the default unit for Wind pressure is N/m^2 regardless of what unit is being displayed for Caesar II 2016..Please correct me if I'm wrong with my conclusion..

Cheers,

Hello all!!

Another thing I observe is the model is not consistently changing or converting from one unit to another, say my original model for wind pressure is 0.941 KPag but when I change the model unit to kg/cm^2g the new value it shows in the wind pressure is 941 kg/cm^2g (but actually must be 0.00959524 kg/cm^2)...Please try in your own model and please check if my doing something wrong with the model in changing units..

I mean "if I'm doing something wrong with the model"...

Hello all...

I've noticed that if I use a user defined unit file this error occurs..So I just use the built in unit file in Caesar.

When building your own units be sure to confirm that the proper conversion value is used.
If you are using the labels listed in the programs dropdown selection list, the correct conversion factors are provided. If you are defining your own label, the proper conversion factor must also be provided.

Thanks for the reply Dave... The conversion factor I used is correct Dave because in the Piping input the correct converted pressure is shown once I convert from my user defined unit file to a built in Caesar unit file.. It's only in the Wind pressure profile that is not converting correctly.. Please try in your own model (basically I used the kg/cm^2 as my user defined unit pressure and then convert it to Kpa and vice versa)..

But anyway, the best work around for now is to stick to the Caesar built in unit file for consistency in my wind stress results..

Many thanks...

We have confirmed that the input dialog for “wind pressure versus elevation” in CAESAR II 2016 (8.0) erroneously displays the “internal pressure” unit instead of the “wind load” unit. This error has been corrected and is available for download from Smart Support as a hot fix. We urge all users to download this correction to avoid incorrect wind loads (if user defined pressure versus elevation profiles are defined).

To acquire and implement this hot fix:

This error exists ONLY in CAESAR II 2016 (8.0).
