B31.5 Allowable Stresses - 07/17/14 02:49 PM

This is my first foray into using CaesarII. I have used another program previously.

I am using B31.5 and analyzing A53B pipe.

The temperatures I am using are 125F and -45F.

Pressures are 340 and 45 psi, respectively.

When I select the Allowable Stress, SH2 comes in at 0.0 psi, while SC and the other SH values propagate at 17100 psi.

Sy enters at 35000 psi.

This yields a Warning number 121E for each entity.

I also get a Warning number 134E for each entity.

I can change the SH2 value manually to 17100 psi and eliminate the 121E warning, but that is inconvenient.

Any ideas or comments?

Thanks in advance.

The material database for this "material/Code" combination includes allowable stresses down to 70 degF. If you want to go below this temperature you have two options:

1) You can manually specify the allowable in the Piping Input. This is the easiest thing to do, as long as you're not using the same "material/Code" combination over and over.

2) You can use the "Material Database Editor" and update the material database. This is the recommended procedure if you use this "material/Code" combination frequently.
