snubbers - Non linear load cases - 04/20/14 09:45 AM

when defining snubbers for non linear system, we are unable to derive the proper case using activation/deactivation in load case setup.

To define the problem clearly

L1: W+P1+T1
L2: W+P1+T1+F1(case 1 : snubbers active/case 2 snubbers inactive)
L3: W+P1
L4: L2-L1 (OCC)
L5: L3+L4(Abs)(occ)

Case 1 : Snubbers fully block the expansion and force resulting in huge loads

Case 2: No loads absorbed by snubbers

The same problem if dealt with linear load cases, provides the correct results as F1 is defined separately

L1: W+P1+T1
L2: W+P1
L3: F1 (occ)
L5: L3+L2(Abs)(occ)

As our problem is nonlinear we could not use these cases.

Is there any way for this, please help.

Run your L1 first to collect the displacements of your snubber connection point. Enter those deflections as a deflection set for the CNode of that snubber. Include the displacement set with your F1 (in L2). This should have the snubber resist only the F1 response and not the operating response.
