SIF For Line Connected To Drip Leg - 05/13/13 08:50 AM

Dear Sir/Lady

I have confronted with problem in a line connected to drip lag side of a tower.
as you see in below a 14" line be connected to a end cap of mentioned drip leg with size 24". In the project PMS has been mentioned to reinforced pad for this connection type but it is for tee branches and we don't know that is it suitable for drip leg connection or not. On the other hand i want to know how can we calculate the SIF for this connection.

Instead of a Weld Cap consider using a 24" x 14" concentric reducer. This would eliminate the need for reinforcing pads.

This procedure, in both of ends shall be used the cap, shall be followed by piping group and we can not change it. On the other hand my important question is related to its SIF. Is it possible to enter reinforcement pad SIFs for this connection type?

There is no Piping Code s.i.f. for this arrangement. You will need to use FEA software such as FE-Pipe to establish values for a C2 analysis.

Jop's proposed solution is far better. I would recommend discussing it with your lead engineer.
