Data Matrix Inferface Help - 10/22/12 06:02 PM

Hi.

Actually I am going to make a pipe stress for a pipeline, so, I only have the coordinates of each point in a spreadsheet of MS excel. I want to use the Data Matrix Interface to generate the geometry, but I canīt. I follow all the steps in Technical Reference Manual, but I supose I make some mistakes.

Anyone has use this interface before?
Please your help.

I also attach the spreadsheet and the text plain txt file.

Thanks for the support,

Best Regards,

Luis F.

The documentation states that the data should be laid out in fields "12 characters" wide. Your file isn't setup like this.

The documentation also states that all values are "Real", "floating point" values. This means all values must have a decimal point. Your file has a number of integer columns.

Try taking the first 5 or so lines from this into a new file and get that working. Then you'll know exactly how to fix your real TXT file.

Thanks Richards, so as I undestands, in a text plain file, Caesar takes each 12 characters a field:

ELMT N1 N2 DX DY DZ DIAM THK ANCH BEND BRAD RIGID

Thanks for your help.

Yes - and don't forget the decimal points.

Re: Data Matrix Inferface Help - 10/23/12 10:46 PM

In documentation I found "The format for each line of data should be (12E13.6)".
My Fortran is lost, however I expect to have 13 characters for each variable of 12. Is that correct? Or maybe in the last version the documentation was changed?

Best regards.

Hi Richard !

Right now, I am import CAESAR II model from DATA MATRIX file.txt

It's go well, so I want include supports, the manual CAESAR II only say:

"ANCH
Provides a restraint flag. A value of 1 sets the From node to be restrained. A zero (0) value is otherwise and is currently ignored"

I have this structure for each line, but donīt understand why don't get the supports. (this structure get all, except the restraint"
Missing something, other column with restaint type ?

You can find on Restriant column value 1
on count 2 element 40-60.

-----count--node_from------node_to------Delta-X-------Delta-Y------Delta-Z----------Diam----------Thk------Restraint----------Bend---------Radio---------Rigid
--1.00000------20.0000------40.0000------3267.80------672.000------1818.40------6.00000------10.9728------0.00000------1.00000------8000.00------0.00000
--2.00000------40.0000------60.0000------2387.70------1621.00------1328.50------6.00000------10.9728------1.00000------1.00000------8000.00------0.00000
--3.00000------60.0000------80.0000------1589.10------1526.00------884.500------6.00000------10.9728------0.00000------0.00000------0.00000------0.00000

Here is an Excel utility in which you type in your data and press a button to create a file that will be correctly formatted for the Data matrix interface.

This is an unsupported utility, I gave it to a user earlier in the year and they were able to save considerable amount of time. There is sample data in this Excel, the data file that it created and sample CAESAR II file created from it.

Try it out and let us know your feedback. I will keep the latest version of this utility at our support portal (https://smartsupport.intergraph.com)
