Hello dears,

We want to analyze an under ground pipeline system, so I have some questions about this job. I was wondering if someone answer my question:

1- Someone said that the under ground but weld carbon steel pipe doesn't need to have anchor block. Is it correct?
2- I think under ground pipe doesn't need to have expansion loop. how about this?
3- Do we need to use any special supposition for analyzing such systems in CAESAR II?

1. Correct, no anchor blocks required on butt welded underground steel pipe.

2. (What is the maximum operating temperature of the service in question?)

Thanks Jop,

2- Its max operating temperature is 40 C and installation temperature for that is 21 C.. Its design temperature is 85 C.
Its min operating temperature is 3 C and ambient temperature for that is 48 C.
3- Is there special idea for analyzing such as under ground system in CAESAR II?

1. No anchors blocks are required for welded underground piping (as opposed to say bell and spigot joints) to keep the piping from pulling itself apart. You may still need to consider anchor blocks or other measures depending on layout to keep displacements under control at certain locations.

2. Expansion loops are generally not used on buried pipelines. Design of long buried pipelines needs to consider lateral stability and compressive stresses due to soil restraint of axial thermal expansion.
