API 617 - 3 STAGES COMPRESSOR - 03/22/12 04:07 PM

Hello All,

I have a 3 stages Centrifugal compressor (. But API 617 CAESAR's module is only for 2 stages. Can I set it up for 3????
Should I do it all by hand?? Or, Can I use the NEMA module and consider the 1.85 factor???

What I mean, is that if API 617 is based on 1.85 * NEMA’s constants values in the equations.
Why not to consider NEMA’s CAESAR analysis module and use the 1.85 factor. Being aware that the equivalent of the exhaust nozzle in the NEMA calculation is the largest compressor nozzle.

The problem I am having is that in CAESAR, API’s 617 module only allow up to 4 nozzles (Suct, Disch, Extr 1, Extr 2) while NEMA’s let you consider more than that (Exhaust, Inlet, Disch, Suct, and more).

The compressor I have has 6 nozzles:

12” INLET
10” - 1ST ISO DISCHARGE
10” - 1ST ISO INLET
8” - 2ND ISO DISCH
8” - 2ND ISO INLET
6” DISCHARGE

Thanks!

I used NEMA’s CAESAR analysis module using the 1.85 factor and compare to an excel spreadsheet based on API617, I got the same values. Send the loads to Elliot for evaluation and everything workout just fine.

Cheers,
