Dear Moderator and friends,
a) While performing WRC in CodeCalc, material of Construction selection option is available for Shell and Pipe / Clip.
b) While Performing WRC in PVElite, material selection option is not available for Shell and Pipe / Clip, but PVElite select material for clip same as shell material.
I need clarification on following:
I am performing WRC calculation of Pipe support clip (Cylindrical in shape with SA 106 Br.B) material. - In PVElite I had model a shell (id 1100mm, material SA 516 Gr.70) - I had defined clip select shape as circular and given dimension of pipe & applied loads. - In calculation allowable stress listed are for clip material is same as of shell material i.e. for SA 516 Gr.70. but i am using clip material as SA 106 Gr.B.
I understand there is no option in PVElite (as in CodeCal) to Select material of Clip. its works fine with WRC calculation of Nozzle to shell both material as selected from nozzle input.
Coade to include material selection in WRC of Vesel clip interface in PVElite.
if any method is available, please provide procedure to follow.

Hello Hirak
I presume you are discussing the analysis of the clip in accordance with WRC 107. WRC 107 really considers the stresses induced in the cylinder to which the clip is attached, not the clip itself. So the material of the clip is not significant. Does that help you?

I do agree that WRC 107 is used to determine stress induced in shell (cylindrical / spherical) due to force & moment imposed by attachment (cylindrical / rectangular, hollow / solid).
But output of PVElite mention below:
Input Echo, WRC107/537 Item 1, Description: VC-PP-10 : Diameter Basis for Vessel Vbasis ID Cylindrical or Spherical Vessel Cylsph Cylindrical Internal Corrosion Allowance Cas 6.0000 mm Vessel Diameter Dv 1100.000 mm Vessel Thickness Tv 28.000 mm Design Temperature 66.00 °C Vessel Material SA-516 70 Vessel Cold S.I. Allowable Smc 1407.10 kgf/cm² Vessel Hot S.I. Allowable Smh 1407.10 kgf/cm²
Attachment Type Type Round Diameter Basis for Nozzle Nbasis OD Corrosion Allowance for Nozzle Can 0.0000 mm Nozzle Diameter Dn 219.100 mm Nozzle Thickness Tn 8.180 mm Nozzle Cold S.I. Allowable SNmc 1407.10 kgf/cm² Nozzle Hot S.I. Allowable SNmh 1407.10 kgf/cm²
and output of CodeCalc mention below:
Input Echo, 107/537 Item 10, Description: VC-PP-10 Diameter Basis for Vessel Vbasis ID Cylindrical or Spherical Vessel Cylsph Cylindrical Internal Corrosion Allowance Cas 6.0000 mm Vessel Diameter Dv 1100.000 mm Vessel Thickness Tv 28.000 mm Design Temperature 66.00 C Vessel Material SA-516 70 Vessel UNS Number K02700 Vessel Cold S.I. Allowable Smc 1406.14 kgf/cm^2 Vessel Hot S.I. Allowable Smh 1406.14 kgf/cm^2
Attachment Type Type Round Diameter Basis for Nozzle Nbasis OD Corrosion Allowance for Nozzle Can 0.0000 mm Nozzle Diameter Dn 219.100 mm Nozzle Thickness Tn 8.180 mm Nozzle Material SA-106 B Nozzle UNS Number K03006 Nozzle Cold S.I. Allowable SNmc 1202.25 kgf/cm^2 Nozzle Hot S.I. Allowable SNmh 1202.25 kgf/cm^2
WRC 107 Interface in Codecalc is similar to nozzle attachment thus material & allowable stress are mention in output.
But in PVElite material selection is not possible for clip. though clip material is indicative but correct material need to be mention in output.

Hello Hirak
Is that a serious problem for you? If the clip itself is not analysed, I think the issue is not - in my opinion - serious.

for a ASME Code Stamped Project. material selected is to be mention correctly.

Hello Hirak
Strictly speaking, the clip is not part of the pressure vessel envelope. However, the material is required by the code to be weld compatible with the vessel. On the drawing the material specification of the clip should be stated. The drawing and calculation comprise the design package.

Dear Ray,
In PVElite, - WRC Interface with nozzle returns correct MoC of attachment in output. - WRC interface in clip interface returns wrong MoC of attachment (Clip) in output.
hope i am able to convey my message, that, I need to re-perform calculation on WRC of Clip in CoadCalc as PVElite output with error is not accepted.
May be in next Version / Patch of PVElite this will be taken care.
