Dear Friends,
In my Project, one Item show message " MAWP is limited by Nozzle reinforcement" but as per client spec. it should not be limited by minor component like Nozzle neck, reinforcement pad.
anybody can tell me how to solve this prob?

Thanks,

Dear Samir,

Normally MAWP shall not be limited by minor components like nozzle reinforcement, flange etc.

Review your shell/head MAWP values and change the thickness accordingly.
To avoid this warning, your nozzle reinforcement MAWP shall be above MAWP of shell/dish.

PVElite has already taken care this : PL go to Load case -> Nozzle/Clip Design Pressure Options. Select option-1 or 3 or 4.

in your case, nozzle reinforcement is governing MAWP. to avoid this, either you have to increase area of reinforcement by providing Self-Reinforced nozzle or insert plate.
i am sure your problem will be resolved.

If nozzle is limiting the vessel MAWP, it means that you are not utilizing the strength of shells and heads to full extent. Also, if you have to replace the nozzle in the field it could change the MAWP of the vessel.

You could also limit the MAWP of the vessel to a lower number.

These are my own view. Others can comment.

if nozzle reinforcement is limiting the MAWP of vessel, you can avoid this problem by increasing the total area of reinforcement. You can do this by increasing the R.F pad diameter or thickness. Try to use R.F pad of width equal to Nozzle Inside radius in corroded condition

sandeep

The issue of utilizing the full strength of shell and heads is many a times not under the designers control. In cases of Heat Exchangers in particular, TEMA mandates minimum thicknesses which could be over twice that required under Code pressure calculations. PVelite uses this thickness to calculate the MAWP which is naturally substantially higher than the design pressure. In this scenario it is left to the nozzle, either reinforcement or thickness or flange rating to limit the MAWP. Customer specifications and requirements do not consider this aspect or lowering of MAWP to any lower number. Any views on addressing this would be welcome.
