Dear all,

As per Codecase 2260-1, we can use formulas mentioned in above code case to calculate thk against internal pressure for torispherical heads instead of using UG-32 and appendix 1-4.

Please explain the logic behind this code case.

(Since using App 1-4 i get req thickness tr = 9.71 mm
& using Codecase req thickness tr = 6.3 mm)

Please help.
Regards

Since the knuckles of formed heads change shape as pressure is applied and, as a result strengthen themselves. The geometrically non-linear analysis results (verified by test results) indicate than knuckles can carry a great deal more pressure than the geometrically linear analysis indicates.

The Code Case rules are based on the failure of the dome rather than the knuckle. Test results and analysis indicate that the dome fails before the knuckle
