Hello folks
Long Weld Neck flanges are not actually covered in the ASME B16.5 specification.
If this flange is the weld neck type (with a hub), the bore has to be specified when ordering the flange. The bore of the flange has to match the inside diameter of the pipe to which it is attached. The pipe might be Schedule 40 or 160. The outside diameter of the pipe alway remains the same. The inside diameter is adjusted to suit the nozzle wall thickness.
If the flange is the slip on type, the bore is just a little bit larger than the pipe to which is attached. For example, and 8 inch Class 150 slip on flange has a bore of 8.75 inches to match a 8 inch pipe which has an outside diameter of 8.625 inches, giving just enought clearance.
