Please tell me the difference between IS 1893 IS-1893 Response Spectrum Method 2002 and only Res. Spectrum method.

Are their calculations are same???

Thank you in advance.

Hi Vishal,

There are several differences in the earlier IS-1893 method and the newer 2002 method. You will generally find that the later version produces higher lateral loads than the previous edition. If you are analyzing a new vessel, I suggest using the 2002 edition.

Hi Scott,

Please note that I was asking about the difference between IS 1893 method and just Res. Spectrum Method available in PV Elite.

Both methods need same user difined data?

Hi Vishal,

Sorry about the misunderstanding. The IS response spectrum analysis and the "generic" RSM are quite different in implementation and will generate different results. The IS request points for Sa/g and other site specific data for India like "Zone Number" etc. Pure response spectrum is more general than the India RSM.
