Dear All,

We want to model and do the analysis of the vessel which is 3 m depth under the soil.

Can we assume the support as a simply resting support throught out the length?

Kindly advice us in this regard.

Dear Venkat
You are right.These vessels also known as "Mounded" vessels usually rests on sand beds throughout their entire length. If the diffential settlements are too large which depends on soil quality then a concrete slab should be used below the sand bed. And if due to seismiscity there is a problem with only concrete slab then a piled foundation supporting a concrete slab may be used.

I am afraid it can be used in PVElite.Please also refer answer by Ray on the topic "Underground pressure vessels" by Paulo Luman dated 09/08/2005.Some Engg. companies have made some procedure for calculating the mound load(as it is complex Rankine formula) over the vessels which induces radial pressure on the vessel and can be modelled in PVElite as external pressure along with other loads.
