We have a 72" horizontal pipe that we're attaching lugs to. The lugs support the pipe from a trapeze hanger on the ceiling, and are located on the sides of the pipe. PVElite and CodeCalc won't accept lugs on a horizontal vessel.
The lug is a single 7/8" plate with an attachment hole; it's pretty much a lifting lug. In CodeCalc, I couldn't put a pad under a lifting lug, so I just ran the lug by itself. Then, I faked a support lug (with gussets) that I could put a pad under. Load per lug is 3,000 lb. All resulsts seemed OK.
Is there a better way to look at a lifting lug with a pad under it?
