Hi!
I have calculated the base plate for heat exchanger with my program (not PV-Elite). The thickness of the base plate of 18 mm was sufficient. But when the TUV inspector checked my calculation with PV-Elite 2009 the required thickness of the one saddle base plate was ok but the other was according to him not ok. The PV-elite has calculated min. required thickness of aprox. 24 mm. When I insisted that he verify the calculation with some other program he has agreeded and confirmed to me that the PV-Elite 2009 does not calculate correctly the loads on the saddle. For information: the exchanger was approx. 8000 kg but the loads on the saddles were 400 kg and 300 kg. Does anybody have the same problem with the saddle loads for heat exchanger? Has this bug bean fixed? I ask because my firm want to purchase PV-elite and the cadworx professional and I need the confirmation of this BUG fix.

Thank You!

Hi Rikard,

My guess is that you have specified a positive G loading value in the positive Y direction (Seismic Load Tab). This vertical acceleration will tend to lower the support reactions on the saddle. As the note in the input dialog states, you should also run with the negative Gy value. Another possibility may be the use of a positive +Y (UPward) force which would have the same effect as the +Gy load. The saddle loads are based on the mass distribution and will not be equal unless the model is perfectly symmetrical.

You can submit your model and we can have a look at it for you if the above are not the solution.
