Dear experts,
I wonder if some one can help me in finding the required distance between tangent line and weld line when using a hemispherical head. I know that we need a 3:1 slop but the problem is that some manufacturers do not consider the beginning of the slop as the weld line.

Vahid,

I'm not sure I understand what you are trying to do. UW-13 shows the options depending on the component to be tapered. Which is the thicker part, head or shell?

Stan,
first of all thanks for your concern!the thicker part is shell.I studied the UW-13 but problem steel remained.the term 3*y indicates the min. length of taper,ok?.my problem is that i want to calculate the distance betwean TL. and WL.. i have seen that some times WL is a distance below the beginnig of taper.i'm looking for that distance.
regards,

Vahid,

This will not affect your PVElite or Codecalc input. If the shell was tapered then your weld line would normally be at the end of it (i.e. tangent line + l), the thinner part. If you used weld build up to form the taper then your initial butt weld between shell and head could be anywhere.
