Hi guys. I know that Cadworx has tool which allows you import catalogs from plant3D. But what about user shape which was created in plant3D. Because plant3D save this file in one dwg with specific name for each component, and if you tried import user shape to cadworx, it wants other name of dwg. And cadworx everytime needs dwg files for all dimension of user shape component. So if you have one user shape component DN32 DN40 cadworx will create 2 dwg file but plant3D not (one dwg file with specific name and block information are only stored in block editor, not inserted in this dwg). So it is somehow possible to get this work? Or you need to recreate whole catalogs? Thanks

I don't think it is neccesary to create completely new catalogs. usually spec conversions from one system to another are not always 100%. Typically, in my experience, you would get a hit rate of 85% - 95%, the remaining components that did not convert will be need to be added manually.

I am not too clued up with the P3D method of handling usershapes, but it sounds like they have the gemoetery for DN32 and DN40 contained as individual blocks in a single file. You whould be able to WBLOCK these out, then in the CADWorx catalog link these files.

From beginning plant3D user shape has specific drawing. After that you need to create plant3D connection through command plantpartconvert - adding port etc. If you create user shape in plant3D plant3D rename drawing to its own and this new drawing contains all dimension for that 3D model. But name is 3xaWHQKS12354.dwg something like that. If you open this dwg with acad model space is empty and all block are reachable only from insert tab.
So if you have for example 500 user shape components it will be insane to find which one is correct for cadworx imported components from plant3D. And after that you need to save them as cadworx want for each dimension, because cadworx have to have each dimension saved separatelly.

But you won't have 500 user shapes, or will you ?

I think what is being said, is that it is defined as a single block, but because each instance in the model has it's own data (description, size, etc.) they are made as unique blocks.

I you are to create a CADWorx user shape, you'll need the original block file that this was created from. You *might* be able to repurpose an insert from a model. You'll need to do some massaging to get it working with CADWorx, just as you would with catalogs and specs.
