I am looking for the best and easiest way to cut sections through a 3D piping model. Any thoughts?

Take a look at the VIEWBOX command. this will create an Autocad named view that can be used with Sheet Sets. If need the view in your current drawing then just issue the VIEWBOX command. pick 2 points based off of the dialog box. Most of the times you have to modify the z coordinate to make a box that is big enough to contain what you want to see. At the top give the view a descriptive name and then select the views you want to create.

Then go into paperspace and use the mview command to create a paperspace viewport. Then make that viewport active. Now type in View and look on the left under Model space views. Select one and on the right select set current then select apply and OK. then change the scale of the viewport by selecting the viewport and changing the scale from the viewport scale box on the bottom right of your status bar. then lock the viewport after you have it set.

You can also use the Autocad command 3DCLIP to create your clipping planes.

I hope this helps.

To concur with Greg, viewbox is way better than 3DClip. The only let down with viewbox is is that if your plant is modelled on real coordinates and is possibly rotated or not aligned to WCS X;Y, then viewbox doesn't work so well. Unfortunately then you are stuck with UCS and 3D clip.

We use XCLIP and 3DCLIP here. I think it comes down to what is more comfortable for you. I find XCLIP good if you want to cut irregular views.

Does anyone knows why my DISPSILH settings keep re-setting back to zero after clipping a section view using Cadworx plant 2015.
current settings are DISPSILH=1, ISOLINES=0
