I recommend using manual saves for the workspace. When done automatically it has a habit of wiping out what was previously set; for example, I've had it remove all of the UI elements from a partial CUIx when it couldn't find it to load.
If your users are only using a single workspace, the startup argument is somewhat redundant. AutoCAD will attempt to use the last active workspace at startup, even if it's not available for the current profile (which might be related).
