A co-worker of mine came across a strange "quirk" in CADWorx where a 45 Elbow doesn't line up with the centerline of a 90 Elbow when drawn over top. In other words the radius of a 45 seems to be wider then a 90. This becomes more and more noticeable as the size of the pipe becomes smaller. I also noticed that CADWorx doesn't use the same measurement for 90 and 45 elbows (RADIUS and CENT-END).

Has anyone else come across this? It's not a major problem as the distance it's out isn't a whole lot. This is more for our own curiosity.

Mp,

I usually place the 45s either in a side or front view, without any problems.

The OD is the same for both.

I first thought it may have been a dimension problem, but then I tried it with the default CADWorx LIB_M files and got the same thing.

Ive tried placing it on side, front, top views and still get it.

On a side note, when I place 2 45's end to end to create a 90 it becomes longer then the 90 I'm drawing it over top of (again, using the default CW2009 dimension files).

edit: I'm using 2" pipe as a reference because thats when it really becomes obvious

Mine does, but I'm using Metric Metric specs. Also it's out by a tiny amount. Hardly to make a difference to a piping contractor.

I'm using Metric/Inch so it could be an issue involving the metric measurements.

True, it's not a big deal in the scheme of things I just thought it was kinda strange.

I see what you are saying now.
I wasnt understanding what you were describing earlier.

so my question is:
Is a 45 just a 90 cut in half or is it manufactured to its own dimensions?

i checked all my dimensions charts and cant find anything that would tell me whether or not 2 45s would actually be equal to a 90.

HALLO,
ELBOW DIMENSIONS ON THE LIBRARIES ARE IN ACCORDANCE TO ANSI B16.9.
ELBOWS 45° HAVE ITS OWN DIMENSIONS AND THE RADIUS IS DIFFERENT FROM 90° ELBOWS, EXPECIALLY FOR SMALL DIAMETERS.
ON ANSI B16.9 FOR THE 45° ELBOWS IS NOT SPECIFIED THE RADIUS BUT THE DISTANCE BETWEEN THE BEWELS AND THE ANGLE BISECTOR.
TWO 45° LR ELBOWS DO NOT MAKE A 90° LR ELBOW!
