Folks,

What's the best way to polish up a sales presentation? Is the Navis Works add-on the best way to go?

Thanks,

Dan

Yup, I combine it with SnagIt to get some nice pictures.

Wolfe,

Thanks...now to get the requisition approved...

Does Coade offer the package in any sort of bundle?

No, you have to purchase Navisworks from Autodesk, if you're only using it for presentation purposes though, you can download the free viewer here. Autodesk Navisworks

Note: it can open dwfs, so if you have your piping group export the 3d model to a dwf you don't have to buy anything. Otherwise, if your group doesn't already own a version of Navisworks Publisher, you'll have to buy Navisworks Review for about $2000. Personally, I'd try the free stuff out first.

I do recommend purchases SnagIt though, as it allows to easily capture images from the model, and edit them with some cool formatting...transparent background, image tilting, etc.

CADWorx is still developing a product called CADWorx Design Review, but at this point it's not as helpful as Navisworks.

The best feature of Navisworks without a doubt is the navigator.

The even better part is that a 1 user network license of Navisworks review, allows everybody connected to that network to use the navigator at the same time.

Awesome oversight on Autodesk's behalf.

This is another idea. We also use navisworks, but it can't do the quality that 3D Viz does. That what I use for our Marketing dept.

I am attaching some examples.

Yes, the light engine in Viz is way ahead of the one in Navisworks. I was using Viz also, but eventually ran into model size limitations there.

Wow, those are some nice pics...

When you say model size limits...can you give a range?

I'm currently working on a Model that is just over 200 megabytes. It's a good size Model with lots of Piping, Equipment, and Solids.

Out of curiosity, I am assuming from the pics that you show holes in your flanges...is that correct?

Would you mind sharing the method you use to create them? I'm sure it's a good one.

Also, who does the rendering your marketing department or your piping?

Draw your flange + array you bolt holes.

From the modelling toolbar use the press to pull icon or hit CTRL + ALT.

Bob is your uncle. laugh

Nice pics, but with a little more time to learn Manage I think I could get something comparable.

Hey Wolfe,

I don't draw any detailed object, that really increases the files size. Plus, for the overall renderings of some projects, bolts or bolt holes are really not needed. They just take up more computer resources.

I attached another project that I did about 5 years ago. (Alky unit revamp)

These Models were an average of 100mb.

Try to upload the pics again. Pics are over 3mg each..

Sorry, I guess there's a files size limitation.?

I have been using Presenter now. Not as good as Viz / 3DS, but better at handling a huge plant.

Sorry Wolfe, I didn't quite answer your question. Autodesk makes 3D Viz/Max as well as AutoCAD. So the file transfer between AutoCAD to 3D Viz is seamless. Even the Xrefs come through to Viz. The version I'm using now is "3DS Max Design 2009", which is the latest version. The applications is very silimar to AutoCAD 2009, 3D Enviroment, so it makes it a little fimilar. The difficulty or learning curve is in the Materials, Lighting, Camera, and using the Modiy tools. Tweaking it to get the Rendering or Movies that you want takes some time as well. If you decide to dabble into Viz, let me know.
