Suggestions are welcome on how to best organize (6) six company piping specifications within the CADWorx specifications paradigm.

Following along with Tony Horn's tutorials, I just set up a company-standard catalog (.cmp) file - a small but significant victory for me.

Catalog created: IPHS_Inch

(IPHS is short for the company name, Innophos.)

Catalog base:
default Sample_Inch catalog

Additional bases include:
Added data from default file "Inch...dbCodes"

Added data from Hexagon's Extended CADWorx Specs (including pipe supports) including:

a.) Copper
b.) Ductile Iron
c.) Process
d.) PVC-CPVC

Project name created:
IPHS-Inch.prj

Migrated (3) specifications:
150, 300 and 600 from default .prj file.

COMPANY SPECIFICATIONS EXAMPLES

Specifications are mainly differentiated here by the piping material.

Two of the six company specifications include:

Spec 1.) 316 Stainless Steel - code of "1SU1"

(I will need to borrow from the default stainless steel catalog, I believe, for this one)

Spec. 2) Carbon Steel - code of "1CS1"

CADWORX SPECIFICATIONS QUESTION

Which type of file (project, catalog) do I use to form an independent specification for each of the company piping specifications for the codes 1SU1 and 1CS1 listed above?

I am a relative newcomer to the process industry as a sole user with few "elbow-rubbing" resources.

You already have the file you need to write the specs in (IPHS-INCH.prj).
All you have to to is add/create the company specs within that file. Those 3 specs you moved from the default (150, 300, 600) can be used as a starting point if you want. Just rename and edit them according to the specs you need.

Hi 'M',

Wow! Your answer seems obvious. The whole project/catalog/specification relationship was a little confusing until now.

Believe me, your suggestion is priceless at this point in my understanding or, more accurately, my lack thereof!

I greatly appreciate and will take your straightforward advice.
