Dear to All,
I have to design an expansion loops (U-shape) of five pipelines that run in parallel. I read the book by SAM KANNAPPAN "introduction of pipe stress analysis" where in Chapter 5 the expansion loops are explained, and I found these formulas to design them:

L2=SQRT(3*E*D*Expansion/(144*SA))
L2= W +2H

where:
Expansion= alpha*(design temperature-installation Temperature)*L
L=distance between two natural anchor point

Once I find L2, if all lengths are equal then L2=3*W and:
W=H=L2/3.

Is this simple calculations useful to design the expansion loops? or, are there other guides to be follow to design it?
Thank you
