I am unable to print from Cassar II v3.22 (Dos) to a HP 5000N LaserJet Printer, connected via a network. The PC is running Win 98.
Can anyone help?

The DOS versions of CAESAR II write straight to the printer, which may cause problems under the Windows environment. I have a number of suggestions:

1) Ensure in the setup for the default printer, you checked the checkbox for DOS programs.

2) If printing across the network doesn't work, try attaching a printer directly to the parallel port of the workstation.

3) You can always send the output to a text file, then print the text file via NotePad or WordPad.

4) Upgrade your version of CAESAR II. What you have is 6 years old, it was not designed to run under Windows, and it is not Y2K compliant.

Thanks for that, but the options of upgrading is not feasable for us.
Similary saving to text file works OK for tabular reports but what about the graphical lines.

Thankyou

You really should try attaching a printer directly to the workstation, and take the network out of the picture.

We added PCX capabilities to the DOS versions in Ver 3.19. This is activated via the Configuration option. Go to the "Display and Printer" options, and set the PLOTHARDCOPY option to PCX_FILE. With this setting, subsequent requests to print graphics will send the data to a PCX file instead of the printer. You should be able to read PCX files into just about anything.
