How to do Time History analysis with the external interface to PIPENET. PIPENET time-force results are transfered to freq-DLF automatically by CAESAR II.

How to input the time-force results? Manually?

PIPPENET produces an .FRC file which holds the time/force data for individual pipe runs in the hydraulic model (force is based on the change in pressure along the run). You can use the CAESAR II external interface processor to convert the .FRC data to a force response specrum. Or, you can use it to build your own time history data set. So CAESAR II has both force response spectrum and time history links to PIPENET.

Dear Mr.Dave,

From your statement I interpret to use specific data (chosen) from the .frc file to generate the spectrum and the same to be used in time history. Is that correct or wrong?

If there is any guideline to use pipenet output in time history analysis, could uou please share with me pmahata@mcdermott.com

Facing difficulties to use pipenet output files in caesar.

The .frc file contains two columns of data - time and load. CAESAR II has a processor (under Interfaces) to convert the .frc file to a force response spectrum. (Comment lines start with *.) If you wish to use the time history data directly, you will have to first convert the time column to milliseconds. Once adjusted, that time history data may be attached to your dynamic input as a Time History Definition. Under Name, provide the name of the file but precede the name with a #. For example, for a file named time_history, provide the name #time-history. That file (time_history) should reside in your CAESAR II data folder.

Dear Mr. Dave,

Thanks a lot for the reply.

So I understand that the .frc file can be directly used and only thing I have to change the time values from seconds to ms in the frc file.
The file such as Time-history.frc shall remain in the folder containing the CAESAR II file only with adjustment of the time values from second to millisecond.

Another point, our structural team designs the structures for the dynamic restraints(CAESAR II dynamic output) from max resp case( Combined load case). Is this the correct approach because these forces are momentary in nature. Please advise.

I can't if you MUST use the instantaneous maximum load in designing the structure.
