Hi Mr.Richard,

Good Morning. I am now doing the Buried pipeline B31.8 analysis for a 6 " SS Piping which is nearly 250 m long going to burn pit. The pipe is failing even after providing adequate flexibility. So I am thinking to provide Ethafoam in the bends.

As I am not familiar with this material usage Can you please give the details/concerns/ in using Ethafoam.

Kindly tell me is there any alternative options.

Best Regards
K.RAJESH

I have no experience with Ethafoam. Remember though that CAESAR II implements the 3D Beam Element, and buried piping is simulated by remeshing the model and including bi-linear restraints. From a CAESAR II perspective, I suspect that the Ethafoam will modify the restraint stiffness. I have no advice on exactly how this modification can be computed.

Hi All,

Can anyone help me in this issue. If we are using Ethafoam in the bends, then the soil stiffness/parameters are not specified for the localized bend area so that the bend is free to displace due to thermal impact.
Can this be done? Can anyone provide additional/related useful information which will be helpful for me...

Best Regards
