Hello everyone,

Would you tell me how the maximum stress intensity in B31.3 is calculated in caesar? or where I can find the formula?

Thanks

The maximum stress intensity calculation is shown in Help. Go to the configuration file processor "SIFs and Stresses" branch and see the help on "Yield Stress Criterion".

Thanks Dave. As I see in the "Yield Stress Criterion" help. the maximum stress intensity, assuming Sr=0, should be calculated as :

(Sl+Shoop)/2+√(((Sl-Shoop)/2)^2+St^2)

but it doesn't give me the right result. please let me know what I'm missing.

these are my output numbers for sustained load case at one node:

Sa: 1833.4
Sb: 258.4
St: -4
SH: 3835.5
Max Stress intensity: 4138.1
Code stress: 2091.9

Thanks

I agree with your formula but I am uncertain of the content in Sa, Sb, etc. (regarding sif's).

Can you attach your CAESAR II model & results associated with this data or maybe run a small (one pipe?) model that also illustrates your issue and attach that file here?

Thanks Dave.Sure, I attached one of my models and checked the maximum stress intensity for node 6040. It doesn't give me the right number.

thanks a lot

Charlot,

I have requested some development time to review the actual program code here.

In the meantime, here are my "hand calculations" for node 6040 on 6040-6050 using Load Case 5 (SUS) W+T1+P1:

It turns out that the From Node has a sign issue for the axial load used in these non-Code stress calculations. The To Node does not show this error. The Code-defined stress calculations are also unaffected by this issue. This error has been recorded and will be corrected.
