Dear experts,

Do we have some formula/equation for calculating long pipe shoe requirement if the thermal expnsion is more than 200mm etc.

thanks

No, we do not have!
Normally in a project the piping shoe length for all the applicable sizes will be given. Then as per instructions (based on the outcome of stress analysis), the length of the shoes shall be increased at certain points and indicated on appropriate drawings or documents.

Actually my query was how to calculate minimum shoe length required as per thermal expansion of pipe?

Hi,

4 times the thermal expansion, If thermal expansion 100mm shoe length will be 400mm...

G'day vick.

If you are worrying the pipe support will slide off the beam due to large thermal displacement, perhaps you can consider an off-set installation of you support.

Alternatively, if the conditions allow, you can also try to increase the area of the beam underneath your pipe shoe, such as by welding longer steel plate plus reinforcing gussets on the beam.

By this means you might be able to avoid designing an extraordinary long non-standard pipe shoe that you don't actually expect (especially for small-sized supports). However the complexity of installation must be increasd by applying the above measures.
