I would have a question regarding the load cases while having seismic loads.

In the Caesar II User Guide at page 522 there is a great example how to set up the load cases while having combined horizontal and vertical seismic loading.

So I set up the U1 / U2 / U3 vector and built those load cases but now "API 650 Table E.8 - Design Displacements for Piping Attachements" is considering an upward vertical displacement of 25 mm and a downward vertical displacement of -13 mm.

I set up a displacement vector - lets call it D3 - and gave it a vertical value of 25 mm everything else empty. This displacement vector I placed on the tank nozzle also I have there the radial deflection and longitudinal rotation vector D2 from the API 650 Appendix P calculation already considered.
So D2/D3 are looking like:
D2:(0, , -8.86,-0.001,0,0)
D3:( , 25, , , , )

Now my question. How do I build D3 right into those load cases?

My load cases so far:

CASE 3 (HGR) W
CASE 2 (HGR) W+D2+D3+T1+P1
CASE 3 (HYD) WW+HP+H
CASE 4 (OPE) W+D2+T1+P1+H
CASE 5 (OPE) W+D2+T2+P1+H
CASE 6 (SUS) W+P1+H
CASE 7 (OPE) W+D2+D3+T1+P1+H+U1
CASE 8 (OPE) W+D2+D3+T1+P1+H-U1
CASE 9 (OPE) W+D2+D3+T1+P1+H+U2
CASE 10 (OPE) W+D2+D3+T1+P1+H-U2
CASE 11 (OPE) W+D2+D3+T1+P1+H+U3
CASE 12 (OPE) W+D2+D3+T1+P1+H-U3
CASE 19 (OCC) L19=L13+L15
CASE 20 (OCC) L20=L13+L16
CASE 21 (OCC) L21=L14+L15
CASE 22 (OCC) L22=L14+L16
CASE 23 (OCC) L23=L17+L15
CASE 24 (OCC) L24=L17+L16
CASE 25 (OCC) L25=L18+L15
CASE 26 (OCC) L26=L18+L16
CASE 27 (OCC) L27=L6+L19
CASE 28 (OCC) L28=L6+L20
CASE 29 (OCC) L29=L6+L21
CASE 30 (OCC) L30=L6+L22
CASE 31 (OCC) L31=L6+L23
CASE 32 (OCC) L32=L6+L24
CASE 33 (OCC) L33=L6+L25
CASE 34 (OCC) L34=L6+L26
CASE 35 (EXP) L35=L4-L6
CASE 36 (EXP) L36=L5-L6
CASE 37 (EXP) L37=L4-L5

Just for explanation: The OPE-Cases are without the D3-Seismic vector for vertical upward/downward displacement, because it should be only considered in OCC-load cases.
The problem now is that I have for load cases L13-L18:
L13: +U1+D3
L14: -U1+D3
L15: +U2+D3
L16: -U2+D3
L17: +U3+D3
L18: -U3+D3

and then for load cases L19-L26:
L19: +U1+D3+U2+D3
L20: +U1+D3-U2+D3
L21: -U1+D3+U2+D3
L22: -U1+D3-U2+D3
L23: +U3+D3+U2+D3
L24: +U3+D3-U2+D3
L25: -U3+D3+U2+D3
L26: -U3+D3-U2+D3

Which is wrong because now I have two times D3 in it. I get now instead of 25 mm for Y-Uplift something like 35.355 mm.

How can I set up correct load cases for this problem - this problem will always be there for any tank nozzle in a seismic area.

Thank you very much.

We really need to see the job's load case file. Please open a Support Request on Smart Support and send in your job (".c 2") file.

Of course would love to get this support and would need it urgently.

I found this site: https://smartsupport1.intergraph.com/ese...WETS=1443005614

How to proceed?
Thank you very much.

Your list is missing load cases 13-18?

When you arrive at the Smart Support login screen, click the link at the bottom for "I am a new user".

Dear Mr. Ay,

sorry - after such a long time dealing with this task totally oversaw that - these are the load cases which should be suppressed because not relevant for code.

Made a picture of those load cases - now all.

My company IT guys will hopefully soon have me ready to use your service - everything forwarded smile

What is D3 - is this part of the seismic event or something else?

D3 is part of the seismic event - simulates the sloshing of the water in the tank and the result for the tank nozzle movements in vertical direction -> First calculation "Upward vertical displacement relative to support or foundation" = 25 mm
and for the second calculation: "Downward vertical displacement relative to support or foundation" = -13 mm
so a vector for one calculation in vertical direction with 25 mm and for the second calculation -13 mm:

(1) D3=(, 25, , , , )
(2) D3=(, -13, , , , )

Y-Direction is the vertical direction.
