For underground piping analysis, caesar calculates operating stress including combined hoop and longitudinal stress. There are two code stresses 4.7.1 and 4.7.2.1 in CSA and 4.7.1 code stress(0.9 S*T) is applicable to undergound piping. In a report, Caesar seems to show only the code stress of 4.7.2.1 considering bending effect with higer allowable stress S*T. How do check the 4.7.1 code stress excluding bending stress?

Thanks,

New Piper

As a general rule - when more than one stress evaluation is required, CAESAR II will compare each calculated stress to its limit and print only the value that produces the greatest (stress/limit) ratio.
Oftentimes a changing allowable stress indicates this shift in focus.

Dave,
Do you mean sometimes the allowable stress may not be even shown? See first line in report below.
Thanks.

I have the same issue, it is usually on buried underground bends where it will show the CSA allowable is 0 for some reason. Caesar will calculate the allowable on either side of the bend but not at the bend.

For buried pipe, the Codes deal with "restrained" and "unrestrained" pipes. Not all load cases address both states of the pipe, hence the zero allowable.
