Dear All,

I am working on a subsea riser system, my doubt is that what is the boundary condition for a riser end which taking an expansion movement in X- direction from the pipeline end?

my senior is suggersting that we have to anchor the connecting end and give the displacement, but end of the riser is not anchord which is connected to the pipeline end .

Please rply ASAP

Thanks in advance.........

An "anchor with a displacement", or just a "displacement" is the same thing - a fixed boundary condition. If the end of your riser connects to the pipeline, you are correct, this is not a fixed boundary.

The best method is to model part of the pipeline, crossing 3 or 4 (pipeline restraints) so that the effects of the pipeline are minimized. You're still ignoring what the pipeline is doing, but this is better than the fixed boundary.
