Dear all,

I had done the nozzle load check using API 650 Appendix P.3 (as per the 10th edition) for one project. But recently I came to know that that part has been removed from the code in the latest edition (11th). So, should I check the nozzles again with appendix P.2 as per the latest edition?
Also, I am using the same P.3 for the current projects as well. Please advise.

Regards
Nidhish

My "personal opinion" is that you should not use P.3 for anything. I found this part of the Code so riddled with errors I couldn't implement it. I suspect this is the reason it has been withdrawn.

Thanks Rich.

We cannot do the nozzle load check (calculations) for Tanks with respect to API 650 in Caesar, right?

CAESAR II gives you the values required to draw the figures for the API650 nozzle check if you have selected API650 nozzle in your model. These values can be found in for example the error check. Making this figures will be your own task.

Corne is correct, you take the information from the Error Checker and construct the Figures from P.2 to qualify your nozzles (plotting the actual nozzle loads from the CAESAR II analysis).

Dear Prabhu,

I think your tank vendor should suggest the type of nozzle load calculation (API 650 or WRC 107). If it is a cylindrical shell, with nozzle perpendicular to the vessel axis, you can try WRC 107 (please check the WRC bulletin and your vessel should satisfy the conditions mentioned in that).

Dear all,

In my project, I was told to check the nozzle load for Skimmer tanks using WRC 297, which I had already checked with API 650 P.3. Since P.3 had been removed from the code, the vendor suggested to go ahead with WRC 297. My doubt is whether we need to consider Tank settlement in the piping because the WRC analysis fails for the system. Kindly advise.

Also it will be more appreciated if anyone could send me any calculation shortcuts (like excel worksheets) for API 650 Appendix P.2.

Regards
