Is there a way to print or otherwise view the spring rates, etc. for a particular spring hanger manufacturer stored in CAESAR? I've pre-defined Anvil spring rates but the program is picking a different spring rate that isn't listed in their catalog for any size or model. I'm using Version 5.3.02.

The answer to your first question is "no".

What is the date of the Anvil catalog you're using?

What is the spring rate and spring size CAESAR II is coming back with?

Richard - Thanks for your help. I went on line and accessed Anvil's November 2011 catalog (Pipe Hangers and Hardware Catalog) here:
http://www.anvilintl.com/Literature/Catalogs.aspx
The load tables are on P. 144-145 of the document.
I have a number of hangers for which I pre-defined the spring rate because the cans exist and I wanted to see what their new rating might be due to changes we are making. Here's an example of what CAESAR reports for one of the hangers I predefined. There are other hangers I predefined for which CAESAR gave similar recommendations. In this case it was a type 98 size 7 (56 lb./in.). The 50 lb./in rate that the program is selecting shows up in a size 8 triple or size 9 quad - is CAESAR recommending either of those two as alternatives? If so, then the message is that the current cans can't be re-used (reset).

"** IN SPRING REDESIGN OPTION AND HAVE FOUND A SPRING CLOSE
TO THE USERS IN PERFORMANCE CHARACTERISTICS. THE SPRING
RATE SHOWN BELOW IS THE CLOSEST. IF WITHIN 5% OF THE
OLD RATE THE NEW SPRINGS TABLE SPECS ARE SHOWN ABOVE.

ERROR BETWEEN PROGRAM AND USERS SPRING RATES .. (%) 12.000
USERS INPUT SPRING RATE ................. (lb./in.) 56.000
PROGRAM SELECTED SPRING RATE ............ (lb./in.) 50.000

Obviously my message that started this thread was incorrect in the claim that the CAESAR selected spring rate was not listed for any model or size.

You have two alternatives here:

a) You can let CAESAR II recommend a spring, which you've done. With your system changes, CAESAR II is recommending a different spring, not just a reset of the existing spring.

b) Alternatively, you can completely specify the (existing) springs and see how the analysis results fall out. You can push things around a little by specifyng the Operating Load, since you have the results from "option a" above.

As long as you're not over-loaded or over-stressed, you can still use your existing springs, even if they would not be the most optimum if this was a new design.

Rich - Thank you very much. Good to know they may still be salvageable - I might have gone off and recommended new springs (although triple and quads not so much).
