Hi,

I am doing flange leakage analysis in the present project. I suddenly came across one doubt. Generally I have done flange leakage analysis for spiral wound gaskets in pressure equivalent method (CAESAR). What if ring type gasket (RTJ flanges) have to be used in the flange leakage analysis in any project. Will there be any change in the flange leakage analysis, I mean input wise do we have to make any change in the analysis.

I need main clarification on the diameter that we enter in CAESAR. For spiral wound gasket we generally take OD of the gasket but for ring type do we have take same OD of the gasket or will there be any change.

Please help me in understanding this.

Thanks in advance

First, you need a refresher course in the basics of Flanges and Gaskets.

Spiral Wound Gaskets are only used with Raised Face Flanges.

Ring type Gaskets are only used with Ring Joint Flanges.

You cannot mix Ring Type Gaskets with Raised Face Flanges.

You cannot mix Spiral Wound Gaskets with Ring Joint Flanges.

That's it!

You have to use G for the calculation, not OD.

Thank you Danb. I mean do we have to use the same methodology even for ring type gaskets also. Please advice.

Jop, Thanks for your advice. I know where to use what kind of gaskets, my question was not clear. I mean when we come across Ring joint flanges do we have to follow the same methodology or will there be any changes. any how thanks for your advice.
