Hi guys

I am modeling a 24" line connecting to huge tank.I have received settlement information from civil group. It shows 3 kinds of settlement
Elastic settlement=29 mm
Consolidation Settlement= 90 mm
Total(Elastic+Consolidate)= 119 mm
I just want to know I have to input which number in the Caesar II?
I believe that we have to use consolidate number (90mm) which is settlement after 5-6 years after installation...but some stress engineer says that we have to use total(119mm) amount of settlement?
I appreciate your advise?

Thanks
M.

Since is specified Total(Elastic+Consolidate)= 119 mm you have to consider 119 mm because the "Consolidation Settlement" do not contain your "Elastic settlement".

Dan,
Elastic settlement occured after tank hydrotesting and is short term settlement. That means when we connecting the piping to tank the elastic is already gone and we have to consider only consolidation settlement. Am I right?

Thanks
M.

There are some things you may want to think at.

It is only an estimated elastic settlement so it may be less than calculated but the total could be the same.
There is a degree of elastic recovery after unloading.

So, maybe it is better to be conservative and consider for your design the 119 mm value.

Dear ETE,
Final settlement of "119 mm" can be considered for design.
