Hello,

I am confused about SLUG & PSV LOADS should be added with SUSTAINED load cases or not .If include t

L1 W+P+T+H+D+F (OPE)

L2 W+P+H (SUS) Is Slug & PSV load included or not)

L3 L1-L2 (EXP.) F effect is considered in Expansion or not

if u r doing static equivalent to dynamic analysis.
then you have to add slug & psv loads in sustain case to check code stress ratio

In L3 you have included F with your thermal loads which is not correct for code complaince (to B31.1 or B31.3 anyway). If F is a PSV thrust load then it would normally be an occasional load and so you should define F and then add it to the SUS case, same as what you do for seismic and wind loads.

Khatkole,

if we include Slug Or PSV load with sustained , then how we make Load case for Expansion , since expansion case should not include This type of forces.

Please clarify it

I am agree with that PSV is ocasional load , but I think Slug load is not occasional load, it always exsist at the operating conditions only.

BUT both PSV & Slug load never exsist @ the time of susutained conditions, then why we add these force with susuatined conditions.

Please explain with load cases.

dsiingh,

it is not like that

you have your pure sustain case in system

W+P+H (sustain)

for which you have to check code stress

additional to that we have to take sustain + psv force for stress check and that is your occational case

W+P+H+F (occ)

for this u have to check only code stress

Not exactly...
The Code says add the sustained and occasional stresses. The Code does not say calculate a stress from the summed moments.
There is a difference. The moments have sign, the (Code) stresses do not.
In CAESAR II, you state "Scalar" or "Absolute" summation, rather than "Algebraic" in Load Case Options.
L(l): W+P1 (SUS)
L(m): F1 (OCC)
L(n): Ll+Lm (OCC)
