Is it a good design to weld pipe shoe to a tee (below the tie in)? We have a piping design that has a pipe shoe welded to a tee. I personally don't like it since there is turbulence there. But our designer doesn't want to relocate it since it will involve the redesign of structure. Does anybody have experience in this?

It is always preferred not to weld shoe at tee to put a support unless otherwise there is no alternative. In specific cases sometime it is done like that. May be we need to be more conservative on SIF. If support is placed without shoe I do not see any problem on that still I will try to avoid support at that location.

Assuming that the branch is vertical and the run horizontal, there should be no problem welding a shoe to a tee. The shoe would need to be profiled to suit since most tees are somewhat barrel shaped. The wall is usually much thicker than connected pipe, so you could consider that if it works on pipe, it's ok on the tee.

How u will define a SIF for this type of connection....
Tee on a pipe and again a weld on tee...

It will be bit complex

Do you assign an SIF to a welded shoe on straight pipe ? Usually no.

If the geometry is as I described above, a shoe should have no effect on the tee and the normal SIF would apply.
