Hello,

If the given pipe thermal expansion is 0.2mm/m, please how can I build/reflect this into Caesar II piping analysis. I did not see any input data on Caesar where this data can be inputted.

I am tempted to use the displacement input but the displacement unit is mm. Do I convert the thermal expansion pipe input data to displacement by multiplying with each pipe segment in my piping analysis.

The reaso I am asking this question is so that the operating load case can be W+P+T+D

Can someone give guidance.

Thanks for the help

Read the "help" on the "temperature" field. You can input the expansion here directly.

Thanks.

I followed the help on the temperature field, but the unit did not change from deg C. I input the thermal expansion in in/in. After running, the system prompted with warnings.

Am I required to change the unit for the temperature to accept thermal expansion input?

You should have defined the strain in mm/mm, but you'll end up with the same value.

What "warnings" ?

See warnings below:

Warning 13E: Material allowable/yield out of temperature range on element 5 to 10. Code check may not be valid unless properties are manuall set.

Warning 121E: Hot allowable 1 on element 5 to 10 is not specified, while the corresponding temperature is. Shx is needed for Allowable calculations.

Thanks.

Well if you specify a strain CAESAR II has no idea what the temperature is, so it can't check things against the database. You need to manually specify the allowables.
