Where would this support be used in practice?
How is it modeled in Caesar? I have seen this being used in a Caeser Model as a Riser Clamp. Is this realistic?

Any advice/comment is appreciated.

Modelling pipe support in Caesar2 is by simply clicking the restraints in the spreadsheet and choose what are the type of restraints are suitable for your analysis and dont forget what node do you put your restraint, anyway you will get fatal error if you mistaken. These support are very important for flexibility analysis, it has a big purpose. Support are used to support the pipe lines, it restricts translations, carry the loads and anything that cause breakdown.

The ASME B31 Codes require the evaluation of ALL operating WEIGHT conditions. NOT just dead weight but dead weight AND live weight (process fluid etcetera). Also, the piping system must be evaluated for dead weight and the live weight of the test media (maybe water for the hydrostatic pressure test)if this test is mandated by the Code. In some cases it may be necessary to provide temporary (for the term of the test) supports to assure that the piping is not overstressed and that the attaching structure is not overstressed.

Regards, John.

So many documents here you can found in coade... newsletter are good source of knowledge and this forum serve as a guide in reading the code.. as Sir John said its not just dead.... Dead when not operating maybe but during operation thermal consideration will take place. I advice you to read B31.3,2006 Part 5 page 33-40

Next question is in the User's Guide and Technical Refference Guide.

Regards!
