Hi friends

I am working on a pump system which is subjectet to earthquake .

I know that the allowable stresses can be extended by %33 but what about allowable nozzle loads of the pumps, ?

shall I calculate the loads and simply send to pump suppliers for confirmation.?

is there any criteria concerning allowable nozzle loads of rotary machineries in earthquake case?

Thanks and regards

This question has been asked many times in different ways...

1st what does your contract require?

2cd assuming that guidance or contractual obligation has not been given I would state to the owner that ordinarily rotating equipment is not designed to run safely through an earthquake till it can be shut down. In Section II terms "SSE" Safe Shutdown Earthquake.

Do a search on this forum and you will find a lot on this subject matter.

There is a great deal of difference between designing a system to meet code stresses versus meeting allowable equipment loads for these occasional loads.
