I perform piping stress workinghour estimation this way:

2 nodes per straight span, 3 nodes per elbow,
1 node per mitre cut, 2 nodes per fitting like valve/flange etc & for each 150 nodes 10 hours for detailed piping stress analysis.

Which way our forum members do this ?

regards,

sam

Hello sam ,

Good Morning.
I would like to know the basis on which you have devised such a plan.
Have you done some kind of test?

I feel it doesnt just depend on the modelling alone.

You are right, checking is imperative indeed.

This estimation is based on certain assumptions:

1) Piping stress isos will have probable support positions marked
2) Pipe Spec, branch table, insulation thk table, valve weights, P&ID, line designation table available
3) Piping stress analysts are skilled & motivated enough

4) It is a statistical estimate. One size may not fit all. It requires adjustment based on feedback in actual workplace.

regards,
sam

How about complexity of the calculation? high temp, rotating equipment connections, complex expansion joint modeling....

Engineers need to work in an ethical manner; so, if complexity requires additional time, the same has to be reported in feedback and estimates should be revised for future applications.

sam
