Hello together,

I could not find any hint, whether SIF values have to be set for HP Piping with not listed components from licensor.

Due to the great wall thicknesses I see no danger for the fittings and first FE evaluations show bending and torsion SIFs < 1.

But the result gives an axial SIF about ~2.7

Is it OBLIGATORY to determine SIFs for all components and use them in calculations acc. B31.3 Cahpter IX ? Or is it just conservative "CAN BE USED" option ? Any comments or recommendations ?

Best Regards Peter N.

Hello Peter,
Hopefully you are the same Peter N I've met in Budapest long time ago.

In my opinion for the unlisted components you should determine the SIF and apply them.

For the listed components the code (at least 2018 ed.) specify as being 1. in absence of more applicable data.
Now, the point is if the manufacturer can not be pushed to provide these SIF as being a special component. I would go this path.

Best regards,
