I have a query when including a snubber in a static model, a first run is undertaken to obtain the displacements at the location of the snubber on the pipe to determine the displacements under operating conditions.

These displacements are then included in the model at the c-node and the load-case is updated to include D1 etc.

The load the snubber is preventing is only active in the z-direction and as such can we only put in the z-direction displacements or does it need to be all 6 dofs?

If all 6, why is this as the snubber is locking in the 1 axis only?

Regards.

If you leave a DOF field blank in the displacement grid, then that DOF is considered free.

In your case, the pipe node is connected to the snubber and sees a Z displacement. The snubber will not prevent motion in the other 5 DOFs, so they should be left blank - free.

Thanks Richard.

The query was raised during checking, it was commented that the CAESAR II literature is quite specific that all 6 dofs are noted down and then added back in, hence the query really as it was a bit of an uncertainty.

Cheers.

Andy.
